Dr. Ramon Estruch is a senior consultant in the Department of Internal Medicine, Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and Associate Professor, School of Medicine, University of Barcelona. He is a member of the Steering Committee of CIBER Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBERobn) of the Institute of Health Carlos III (Ministry of Science and Innovation, Government of Spain), director of the Laboratory of Hypertension, lipids and cardiovascular risk associated IDIBAPS-CELLEX and member of the Advisory Board of the European Foundation for Alcohol Research (ERAB) of the European Union. Dr. Estruch is the coordinator of the PREDIMED Study, a multicenter study of more substantial nutritional intervention ever conducted in Europe and which involves many research groups in Spain. This study examined the efficacy of the Mediterranean Diet and its main components in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and has had a broad coverage by major newspapers such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, among other world known journals such as Forbes and Time.
Ramon Estruch has published over 250 articles in high impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, Annals of Neurology, and American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. All these studies have been conducted in collaboration with universities and implies multiple Columbia University in New York, Loma Linda University in California, Harvard School of Public Health in Massachusetts, Human Nutrition Research Center at Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA, and Mario Negri Sud, Santa Maria d’Imbaro, Italy.
